Spray Painting

Spray painting, when done properly, is a great way to finish a project quickly. It’s also useful for painting objects that have a variety of angles or corners that can’t be accessed easily by a brush.

Always spray paint outdoors or in a well-ventilated area such as an open garage. And avoid spray painting in windy or dusty conditions. Make sure to cover the surrounding area to protect from spray mist – use a drop cloth for larger objects, or newspaper for smaller objects. You can also turn a cardboard box on its side and create a handy spray booth.

Follow the instructions on the product can regarding preparing the can for painting. Typically, this means shaking the can for one minute after the mixing ball inside begins to rattle. And shake the can often during use to keep the paint properly mixed. Also check the instructions for the recommended distance from the surface being painted.

It’s important to keep the can the same distance from the surface to ensure proper coverage and a smooth, even finish without overspraying. Spray in a steady, back-and-forth motion, slightly overlapping each stroke. And keep the can in motion while spraying to avoid drips.
